Job Description
In this role, you will be part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) of the Global Training and Documentation Department. You will be required to convey the Vision, defining what is required to meet the Strategic Goals and assisting those team members to ensure that training meets customer’s needs. You will have delegated responsibility to take decisions on behalf of the Global Training Director and Deputy Global Training Director.
You will be responsible for the implementation of the Training Strategy which includes four Pillars Of excellence: Digital Training; Training operations; Training Delivery and Training Analysis – your role specifically relates to the successful leadership of the latter pillar. The role includes establishment and ownership of the standards, policies and curriculum for training of our customers on the safe and proper operation of our products as well as technical training to technical staff on safe maintenance practices and activities to facilitate successful maintenance and repair activities. You will also be responsible for providing guidance on the improvement and standardisation of existing training materials, job aides and other technical information tools and documentation globally. Under the general direction of the Global Training Director and their Deputy, you will lead the global training programs to ensure a high level of productivity, consistency and quality of service training delivery. The training responsibilities will include those for the users, operators and supervisors as well as the technical service team. This role will oversee the recruitment, hiring decisions and management of the global training staff to include third party contractors to ensure the training is delivered at a consistent level and of the highest standards.
Includes responsibility to lead the global documentation team and to develop all levels of technical product documentation and user manuals for products and programs. The team will be required to work closely with the Technology, Programs, Products and service teams to complete the required documentation to achieve the product gate milestones in support of the company’s defined PLP process.
You will also be responsible for the review of current training product offerings, then explore and implement alternatives to increase the value and revenue. You will manage the organisation that will explore and implement state of the art techniques and methods that will continue to improve the quality and usefulness of Smiths’ products.
You will champion the information flow for process improvement and quality information; oversee the creation of new processes; develop plans for adding, reducing and changing documentation and training efforts as needed to support the global business needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Manage and conduct research that looks to understand the customer’s needs to ensure that the training solution exceeds their expectations
Establish policy, monitor and maintain Trainer skill standards and requirements
Define trainer Certification of trainers for Technical and Operator trainers
Manage Training documentation library for consistency to defined standards
Manage terminology library for consistency to defined standards
Manage labelling process for documentation
Manage the translation of documentation by external providers
Understand and be able to apply Instructional System Design and Technical Writing principals, processes and guidance to the global training function and other functions as required
Manage the documentation and training team members and managers in order to deliver business requirements on time to exceptional quality
Review and approve procedures for service training
Establish and maintain a close relationship with Product Managers, Product Specialists, country service managers and regional service leads in order to support the needs of the customer and business while remaining aware of current technical trends
Establish documentation delivery, training performance and quality metrics and monitor performance toward those goals
Review and support training and customised documentation estimates prior to submission to the customer for projects, proposals, sales opportunities and extended programs
Identify and independently manage any obstacle negatively effecting the Service offering
Oversee and ensure high quality of training and documentation through internal and external customer audit activities
Recommend purchase of all test and/or capital equipment and software necessary for the documentation and training of all products
Liaison with service country and regional service leads to establish training objectives for technical staff to increase technical capabilities and monitoring of technical staff performance standards
Liaison with service country and regional service leads to forecast types and quantities of technical training required to develop a cost-effective training offerings and schedule
Oversee the development of training materials and documents in accordance with global regional regulations and requirements
Develops processes for evaluation of training effectiveness
Recruit, supervise and orchestrate training and development of staff
Guide others in the creation of process flows within their respective groups
Develop and build upon relationships with other functional disciplines within the company
Work across functions to ensure business is transacted accurately and within guidelines to the highest ethical standards
Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies
Comply with all applicable (Germany/US/Canadian/UK/other) export control and security regulations

The Individual
Understanding of applied research methods in commercial practice
Good knowledge of statistical analysis and data interpretation
Expert knowledge of using Training, Education or Instructional Design Theories such as ADDIE, Bloom or DSAT
Expert in the leadership of the development of both digital and Instructor Led Training
Expert in the creation of training that delivers a competitive edge by incorporating emerging global strategic themes
Evidence of educational certification in a subject relating to the understanding of Training, Education, or human behaviour and performance in the workplace would be preferred – as a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree is acceptable
Computer literacy is essential, proficient in use of all programs within MS Office Suite
Senior Management experience within a training development and delivery department is essential
Proven experience in personal training delivery skills in order to assure own Training Delivery staff
Strong personnel management and interpersonal skills with significant evidence of Annual Report Writing and implementing Development Plans for staff
Excellent written and verbal communication skills evidence by an ability to write research papers, detailed briefs, Chair large meetings and deliver exceptional presentations
Leadership of international staff is highly desired
Must be able to apply principles of adult learning
Demonstrate initiative to solve operational challenges and the ability to maintain good working relations with people of diverse skills and cultural backgrounds
Evidence of exceptional customer relationship skills
The ability to thrive in stressful situations and lead a large team in multiple time zones
